Things were going so well today, but then this destroyed my faith in humanity.

Ok, let me put on my Defender of Texas hat aaaahhh-gain.
When you only survey .00347% of a population, sometimes you get wacky results. Tisk, tisk. When are folks (lookin’ at you Professor at UT) going to stop considering a population as large as Texas as a singular, smaller entity?

Hate to break it to you, but scientific polls don’t just call 800 people in the phone book from one place in Texas. Painstaking processes are in place to make it as random as possible, and respondents are tracked so the survey is as geographically and demographically diverse as Texas as a whole (see: the last three pages of the survey results). It’s not perfect… that’s why the margin of error of the poll is +/- 3.46%. But it’s not like these numbers are based on plucking a few hundred people off the street in Tyler.
But thanks for at least trying to make me feel better about this.
