It’s a lazy Sunday, and while I’d love to write a long diatribe about this, I’ll simply say this: fuck you, Major League Baseball. Fuck you, ESPN. And fuck you, Fox. All three parties are involved in the most anti-fan broadcast policy in sports. This shouldn’t be relegated to page 4 of the sports section - it should be on the front page to shame these greedy assholes.
What’s on ESPN tonight? The Reds and Braves, two teams that not a single Red Sox or Tigers fan gives a shit about. But the network is so concerned that they’re going to lose viewers if another game airs at the same time, they won’t even let it air across the street from where the game is being played! And MLB agreed to this policy!
Fox has a similar policy. Fearful that they’ll lose viewership among fans of out-of-market teams, they blackout all other games but the one playing in market. As if a Red Sox fan living in San Antonio is going to say, “aw, the Red Sox game isn’t on! Well, I guess I’ll watch this completely meaningless Diamondbacks-Astros game that’s on Fox instead!”
These greedy bastards obviously hate the fans. Fox and ESPN’s contracts are both up in 2013. We as fans need to give MLB an earful when they go to renew.
